Dr. Trish London, DVM, CVA

Dr. Trish London began working with elephants 27 years ago at The Elephant Sanctuary. She graduated from the University of Georgia Veterinary School in 2003. She completed an internship with Chiang Mai University Elephant Department in Thailand. She then worked in emergency medicine for 10 years and became certified in veterinary acupuncture.

In 2016, she began traveling and volunteering at a variety of elephant facilities throughout Southeast Asia, including Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.  For the past 5 years, she has been an instructor for the Ecology and Conservation of Southeast Asian Elephants Course with School for Field Studies in Cambodia.

In 2019, she became a consulting veterinarian with Global Sanctuary for Elephants in Brazil.  She assists with the transport of elephants from the zoo to the sanctuary and with visits for physical exams and consults, all conducted remotely. She also consults with Elephant Valley Project in Cambodia.

In 2020, she founded the Asian Elephant Wellness Project (501 (c)(3)). The project helps create collaborations between organizations and facilities that work with Asian Elephants to help improve their welfare. The first project was the building of a retirement home for 2 sick working elephants in Nepal.

In 2023, Dr. London was one of the veterinarians invited to do a health assessment of Lucy the elephant at the Edmonton Valley Zoo, where she formally recommended that Lucy be moved to sanctuary. Read her full assessment of Lucy’s condition in her publication.

She visits other elephant facilities around the world to provide veterinary help for elephants wherever she can.  She helps vets in other countries care for the elephants under their care by bringing necessary medical supplies and sharing the knowledge she has gained from her travels. Today, she also serves as a research assistant to Elephant Reintegration Trust, continuing her global work in South Africa.
