In 2019 I stayed for a week at the Umani Springs property at Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya. It’s minutes away from the Umani Springs Elephant Reintegration Unit, where I was fortunate to able to be with the elephants each day. While there, I got to know Philip Okode, the Reintegration Unit’s Headkeeper, an extraordinary person and caregiver to the elephants, most or all of whom are orphans with awful back stories.

Philip and I developed and have maintained our long-distance friendship and remain close. He periodically sends me photos and videos of the orphans, which going forward will be displayed here.

Evan - I leave to you whether the vid is too shaky and annoying to post. I took it in 2019 in Sheldrick.

Evan - As you see above, these come from Sheldrick. These are from today, and he will keep sending me photos. We don’t have to use them all, but maybe we can use these to get people to keep coming back.

Please feel free to rearrange these in whatever way you think works best. I don’t know if we can do a carousel (I believe this theme has carousels but I at some point looked at other apps that let you embed a carousel. I’m also thinking maybe we should have this (again, maybe as carousel) on the landing page to keep people coming back? THose are my thoughts, but I leave it to you.
