A Peek Behind the Curtain
This devastating undercover video of a baby circus elephant was recorded and provided to us by “Lucy,” whose real name is withheld at her request for fear of retribution.
The fundamental premise of our work is that if prospective attendees knew the full extent of the truly awful means and methods used to capture, transport, break, train, house, and maintain the elephants, they would be appalled. And they wouldn’t abide it. The public just doesn’t know that, by buying tickets and attending the event, they tacitly endorse those extraordinarily cruel means and methods.
For traveling circuses, we track where and when the event using elephants is appearing. Using opinion pieces, ads, social media posts, letters to the editor, billboards, commercials and other content designed to reach people in the locale in which the elephants are exhibited or being forced to perform, we educate potential supporters about what they are not seeing, including the pain, agony, isolation and fear-based tactics used, as well as governmental and other violations issued against the owners and promoters. A similar strategy is used for captive elephants in zoos and other such attractions.
